Adaptive Fitness: Meeting the Needs of our Community
The Fitness and Wellness Department at Berkshire South continuously strives to address the needs of all our members. You will find a specially trained team that offers classes and trainings for individuals with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, neuropathy, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and other conditions.
Our Adaptive Fitness member base is a priority to us, and we continue to educate ourselves on how to best meet the needs of these members while at the same time staying focused on keeping our Wellness Programs accessible and adaptable to everyone.

Art Classes with IS183 Art School
Berkshire South and IS183 are working together to offer art classes designed primarily for seniors but open to anyone who is interested. Advanced registration is required. Call 413-528-2810 to register or for more information.
Art Start: Discover Your Creativity!
Instructor: Yura Adams Monday 1-2:30 p.m.
Discover or rediscover your creativity! Through painting and collage combined with found objects and photographs, you will explore the joy of making art. Designed for all levels, this course will have no drawing as you will use color, texture, home-made stamps, word design, and stencils to enhance your artworks.

Hand Building with Clay
Instructor: Paula Shalan Thursday 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.
Never worked with clay before? That’s okay! Explore the expressive qualities of clay as you learn pinch, coil, and slab construction to create vessels, tableware, boxes and more. Finished works will be glazed and surface decorated. No previous experience needed, just a desire to play with clay! Work will be fired at IS183 Art School.

Post-Holiday Cleanse: A Juice Feasting Adventure

You clean your car; you clean your yard; you clean your house. Now it’s time to clean your inner house! Give your liver a break and your immune system a boost.. We’ll be drinking our way to health for 7-10 days and you’ll be guided through it before, during, and after. If you have never fasted before, it’s easier than you think. We’ll organize a generous diet of juices and other drinks to consume during your fasting week. All proceeds benefit Adult Programs at Berkshire South.

Discover simple yet effective ways you can improve your health through this four session program with The Sproutman, Steve Meyerowitz. Each session will focus on and explore a different topic including the benefits of eating more raw foods, kitchen gardening, digestion, and vitamins. This program can be taken alone or in conjunction with Post-Holiday Cleanse. Either way, it will give you the insight you need to improve your health and make more informed choices about the foods you eat.

Capture the excitement of being a mom-to-be and channel this energy into physical health for you and your unborn child. This class is a gentle blend of cardio and strength training movements. Focus will be made on connecting with your unborn child while increasing flexibility as your body changes. There will be time for questions and sharing throughout. Ease back into the world of fitness with your new little one. Bond as you exercise together moving to music. Learn how to move and massage your little one. This high energy, low impact circuit class is designed to work the entire body using various weights and Dyna-Bands®. A great way to start your week by strengthening, stretching, toning and improving your cardio ability.
Aero Tone
Monday & Friday 9-10 a.m.
Join this fun energetic class that offers a fat-burning cardio and total body strength training workout. Class is designed to work all the major muscle groups with special twists added by the instructor.
Cardio Jam
Tuesday & Thursday 9-10 a.m.
A playful, high energy class that combines easy-to-follow Latin and Afro-Caribbean dance, jazz, funk and kick-boxing moves to create a fun, innovative work-out. Emphasis is on cardio-vascular fitness, coordination, muscular strength, balance and flexibility.
Cardio Combo Challenge
Wednesday 9-10 a.m.
Take a 60 minute cardio combo challenge! This weekly class includes high energetic cardio kickboxing and overall body toning designed to improve coordination, balance, muscle endurance and agility.

Bring some balance into your life! Enjoy the benefits of a stronger core, increased balance and more endurance for sports, recreation activities or the every day chores of life.
Cardio Kick Boxing
Sunday 9-10 a.m. & Wednesday 5:30 p.m.
This class combines the flexibility and strength building of kickboxing with fat-burning cardio. Kickboxing is high energy, explosive, exciting , motivating and fun! Punch mitts are used for an intense energy and muscle building blast. Suitable for all levels.
Pilates
Sunday 9-10 a.m.
Our popular Sunday morning class is based on Joseph Pilates’ discipline of strengthening the muscles central to posture and lengthening all muscles essential to balance, movement and agility. Suitable for all levels.
Whole Body Workout
Monday & Wednesday 10-11 a.m.
Work your entire body! After 30 minutes of cardio work we move on to strength training using weights or Dyna-Bands® to help tone muscles, strengthen and improve joint movement while building core strength. Suitable for all levels.
Yoga-Pilates
Tuesday and Thursday 10:15-11:30 a.m.
This all-levels class combines traditional Hatha Asanas blended with Pilates core strengthening, breath work, postural alignment, and restorative poses to promote the integration of physical, emotional and energetic well-being.
Stretch and Strength Tuesday and Thursday 10-11 a.m.
Discover the benefits of increased strength combined with stretching. This one hour class will help improve balance, strength and coordination while demonstrating the proper ways to work with weights and stretch. Suitable for all levels.
RUSH
Tuesday and Thursday 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Wind down your day with this fun cardio and strength workout. Burn calories, build muscles and close your day knowing you’ve done something good for yourself. Suitable for all levels.
NIA
Tuesday 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Nia is a lifestyle fitness practice that teaches you to be more joyful, expressive, and alive in your body. Nia strengthens muscles and improves muscle tone and definition. It creates proper weight management, while increasing grace, flexibility and endurance. Nia is done barefoot to diverse and inspiring music! All ages and fitness levels welcome.
Power Hour
Monday & Friday 5:30-6:30 p.m.
A one hour total body workout that incorporates a variety
of high intensity cardio work focusing on cardio endurance and power, agility and strength ending with a relaxing stretch. Suitable for all levels.
Yoga for Every Body
Tuesday & Thursday 5:30-6:45 p.m.
Refresh your body, soul and spirit with this welcoming class with modifications offered for all levels. Promotes flexibility, gentle strength, and stress reduction. This is a Kripalu Yoga class taught with a compassionate approach.

Fitness Body Assessment
A body assessment will help you identify your overall fitness strengths and weaknesses. We will identify fitness goals and provide alternative approaches to exercises with the guidance of a personal trainer. Your flexibility, upper and lower body strength, stability, balance, body fat percentage, target heart rate and body alignment will be assessed and measured. Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance. Call the Fitness Office at 413-528-2810, ext. 37 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
